Building European Communities' Resilience and Social Capital

Summary

When a disaster strikes it is not always straightforward who really are in the most vulnerable position: the elderly or impaired with disability to move, children with no understanding about the severity of the disaster? Or, people without language skills such as tourists or immigrants, impecunious people who cannot afford moving away or protect themselves, or merely people who just are not willing to leave their property under the threat.

To improve the overall resilience of people, communities and thereby the whole society, the BuildERS project focuses on the most vulnerable individuals, groups and communities. Strengthening the social capital, risk awareness and preparedness of the most vulnerable segments of the societies and communities will increase understanding on what societal resilience comprises.
