Synergies and joint actions between EU funded climate and health projects discussed

How can projects working on heat and workers health, cardiopulmonary impacts of heat and air pollution, cascading climate risks and social vulnerability and community resilience find potential synergies and joint actions?

Representatives from four research projects funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme came together to discuss this and exchange knowledge at an online workshop organized by the ENBEL project 18 February 2022. The workshop included presentations of results from the following projects, all represented in the ENBEL project (click on links to see their presentations):

HEAT-SHIELD: Integrated inter-sector framework to increase the thermal resilience of European workers in the context of global warming, Lars Nybo (PI)

EXHAUSTION: Exposure to heat and air pollution in Europe – cardiopulmonary impacts and benefits of mitigation and adaptation, Kristin Aunan (PI) and Francesca de’Donato, www.exhaustion.eu

CASCADES: Cascading climate risks: towards adaptive and resilient European societies, Ilona M. Otto (PI), www.cascades.eu

BuildERS: Building European Communities' Resilience and Social Capital, Kati Orru, co-lead, buildersproject.eu

Potential collaboration, interests and synergies include e.g.

· The data developed in different Horizon 2020 projects could be applied in other projects

· Future joint analysis combining data from several Horizon 2020 projects

· Methods for revealing vulnerability factors and social determinants of health

· Interest in the Climate extreme indices and heat stress indicators derived from CMIP6 global climate projections from Copernicus Climate Change Service
