Climate and Health: from research to policy in the context of EU and Belmont Forum funded projects

The symposium will overview current research programs and innovative findings from research on heat-related health impacts and adaptation. The symposium will be part of the 33rdAnnual Conference of the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE 2021) that will take place between August 23-26, 2021.

Health issues related to climate change are gaining increasing attention and include a range of challenges that will be exacerbated in the coming decades across the globe, in both high- and low-income countries. However, despite strong calls for reframing climate change as an urgent health issue necessitating joined-up action, many research communities are still operating as stand-alone entities. This impedes the planned production of knowledge and integrated, evidence-based policy on climate and health.

The symposium will present the findings of three innovative projects examining heat-related health risks among key vulnerable groups and discuss how to translate research findings into policy. The discussion between researchers, policy makers and stakeholders will focus on current research programmes and future perspectives in the context of the recent EU and global policies, and COVID-19 recovery. The symposium will be part of the 33rd Annual Conference of the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE 2021) that will take place between August 23-26, 2021 as a hybrid conference, hosted by Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, New York, United States.

The symposium is organized by ENBEL partners Francesca de’Donato, Department of Epidemiology Lazio Regional Health Service, Italy and Matthew Chersich, Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.
